About Us

Meet Prairie Protection Colorado

Who We Are

Prairie Protection Colorado aims to advocate for prairie dogs and maintain healthy prairie ecosystems by raising awareness about the widespread extermination of prairie dog colonies along the Front Range.

Our organization distinguishes itself through a grassroots approach, emphasizing fundamental analysis of prairie health. We organize local efforts and collaborate with various stakeholders, including local governments, media outlets, and legal avenues, to protect the remaining prairie dog colonies and the ecosystems they support across Colorado’s Front Range communities.

Our Vision

Prairie Protection Colorado was started by grassroots activists and members of Deep Green Resistance who refused to stand by while they witnessed the continued annihilation of prairie dogs up and down the Front Range.

Our non-profit organization advocates for prairie dogs by drawing attention to the mass exterminations of prairie dog colonies through organizing and resisting the destruction of these last remaining prairie communities.

PPC organizes on the ground and works with grassroots advocates, local governments, the media and legal channels to cast a web of protection over the last remaining prairie dog colonies throughout Colorado’s Front Range communities.

Your Vital Role

Prairies are the lifeblood of vibrant ecosystems, offering sanctuary for wildlife while prairie dogs recharge aquifers to sustain clean water for our communities. Our organization was founded by saving a large prairie dog colony in Castle Rock through a citizen referendum and political pressure, successfully relocating them to a protected sanctuary in perpetuity. That victory sparked a movement that has since saved thousands more, including Naropa, the Armory colony, Cherry Creek State Park (relocated from poisoning), Parker’s thousands plus local ordinance enforcement, and statewide protection efforts.

Each donation, signature, and volunteer effort directly contributes to preserving habitats, protecting wildlife, and advocating for the future of these essential landscapes. By joining us, you become a vital protector of prairies and the creatures who depend on them. Together, we ensure these vital ecosystems thrive for generations to come. Thank you for making a difference.
